Brief History
The Chevrolet Motor Car Company was incorporated on November 3, 1911 in Michigan by William Durant, Louis Chevrolet, William Little, and Edwin Campbell. Headquarters were based in Detroit at the West Grand Boulevard plant. They produced a 4.9 liter car, originally selling for $2,150. Prices plummeted when they introduced their Baby Grand tourer, as it only cost $875. Apparently, the drop was appreciated, as sales rose to over 70,000.
Chevrolet officially became part of General Motors in 1917. It jumped to No. 3 in sales by 1920, only behind fierce competitors Ford and Dodge. In 1927, Chevrolet finally outsold Ford, and thus, the great pricing war was waged. 1929 brought on the legendary "Cast-Iron Wonder", which sold well over 1 million units in its first season alone. Priced attractively at $595, the public couldn't resist. It also introduced Chevrolet's famous "Stovebolt".
After the Word War II Chevrolet is in stagnation. At the end of ’50s and beginning of ’60s Chevrolet release the well-known Bel Air and Impala they had instant market success.
