- The 2002 Thunderbird was Ford's attempt to bring back the focus to the once famous name. The update was necessary since the previous version lost its original magic and the model was not that attractive to buyers. The original shape of 55 T-bird was reborn in 2002 with the touch of modern design features. Thunderbird became two-seater again with the traditional removable hardtop with porthole windows. The rear-drive platform was borrowed from Lincoln LS. This time car was not chasing sporty Corvette and Viper but Mercedes SLK and Lexus SC 430.
