- 1970 Firebird marks the beginning of the second generation of the model. The design remains almost unchanged in years 1971, 1972, 1973. However in 1973 was changed the front grill and bumper as well as slightly downgraded engines. New engine was added—Super Duty 455 V8 (SD-455). Firebirds with this engine were quite expensive that's why only 252 Firebird's Trans Am and 43 Firebird's Formula were made.
