Challenger was Dodge's late entry to pony car market—launched for the 1970 model. Designer of exterior was Carl Cameron he did the design of 1966 Dodge Charger as well. Challenger was based on the same platform like Plymouth Barracuda but with 2-inch larger wheelbase to provide more room inside the cockpit. Buyers had choice of two body types—coupe and convertible. The performance model was labeled R/T (Road/Track). The SE luxury package was available for base and R/T and included—leather, seats, vinyl roof and smaller rear window.
