- 1955 Thunderbird marks the first generation of the model. Production started in September 9, 1954 in Ford's Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan and T-bird went on sale in October 22 same year. Thunderbird was selling well, there were about 4000 orders waiting before the production even started. Ford planed to build around 10000 units the eventual sales were around 6000 more than expected numbers. Base price of the model was $2695 available with fabric convertible top or fiberglass top. Buyers were able to select between 5 different colors: Thunderbird Blue, Raven Black, Snowshoe White, Goldenrod Yellow, and Torch Red. Interior's upholstery had colors that match the exterior.
