- 1948 Tucker Torpedo had a 128-inch wheelbase, a 219-inch body, and raised just 60 inches off the ground. The car was quite impressive for it's day with $2,450 projected price. Torpedo featured: 4-wheel independent suspension, pop-out safety glass, added dash board, collapsible steering column, center head light that turns with the steering wheel, aluminum 6 cylinder boxes type engine that is mounted in the rear of the car, electronically controlled pre-select 4-speed transmission, 167 hp 390 ft-lb/ft of torque, 0 to 60 mph in 10 seconds and top speed at 120 mph.
