Product Details
Description: Mary and Larry are two lovers, who , with Larry's ace mechanic, kidnap the daughter of a grocery store owner, and make off with the ransom. They are chased over hill, over vale by the cops, who deploy everything from 426 Hemis to helicopters to stop Larry's Dodge Charger
Amazon.com: Susan George (Straw Dogs) is ex-groupie Mary and Peter Fonda (Easy Rider) is wannabe-NASCAR driver Larry. They're thieves on the run from sheriff Vic Morrow (The Blackboard Jungle), who carries neither gun nor badge. According to director John Hough (The Legend of Hell House), his white trash cult classic was "an action picture with a lot of stunts." That about sums it up. The Tarantino favorite is slim on character development, but overstuffed with automobile-oriented action (most revolving around a 1969 Dodge Charger). Notable stunts include a game of chicken with a couple of 18-wheelers, a low-flying helicopter chase, and a death-defying leap over a moving bridge (Speed would up the ante with a bus). Adapted from the novel The Chase, Dirty Mary Crazy Larry also has one shocker of an ending. Adam Roarke, as levelheaded mechanic Deke, and an uncredited Roddy McDowall, as supermarket manager George, provide solid support. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

- Great Car Chase Film

- This was a film my brother took me to when I was about 7 , I still remember it now after all these years. This special edition seemed to be out for a very limited time and I snapped it up quick.Peter Fonda as always plays a rough and ready ex NASCAR racer who with Adam Rourke decides to pull off a supermarket heist. They are joined by a hot looking Susan George who I always thought could have been a better actress than she was, but seemed to play the great looking blonde with not much upstairs as seen in some of her other films most notably Straw Dogs. The late Vic Morrow who I thought was a great actor which we lost to early plays the the lawman hell bent on catching them at any cost. The ending annoyed the hell out of people for years but I thought it was great as they could not bring anyone back for a sequel.Has the rare feat of being directed by a British director John Hough which back in the 70s was not the norm as most American films had U.S directors , he did a very fine job here.Roddy McDowell took a uncredited roll as the supermarket manager and we all know what a fantastic actor he was.Of course the other star was the 69 Dodge Charger and as with the Challenger in Vanashing Point seemed to express American muscle cars at their best. This edition is filled with a stack of really good extras and would make a great film to add to anyones collection.

- Just watched this dvd after not seeing the movie since around 1978 on television. What I remembered seeing when I was young was a couple of guys riding around in a Dodge Charger causing trouble and being mean to this girl, along with the shocking ending. Seeing the movie once again, I realize it is much more than that. There is some great humor and a lot of spectacular stunts that you will not see these days. But I want to emphasize this: the movie is more character based than one might think. Larry is pretty much the white trash who treats Mary like trash. Deke is not friendly with her in the beginning either; however, later there is a sense of something that might have continued in a relationship between Deke and Mary. This is what makes the ending very sad, along with the fact that Larry and Deke had big dreams of making it big in racing. I did not catch on to this when younger, and figured they all got what was coming to them in the end for causing so much trouble. I now see the movie in a completely different light than before - and you will too.
This dvd is highly recommended - buy it while you still can and preserve this movie in your dvd collection. - This movie creates cool and doesnt blow it

- I always read people's complaints, and I'm also a pretty particular person when it comes to movies, so I have to disagree. There is no plot per se, except a couple of professional thieves trying to get away, but so what?
Sometimes movies are fun for throwaway entertainment and this delivers it. The transfer is beautiful. You really feel like you are right there, and its coming up on forty years ago.
Peter Fonda does his job as the cool but corrupt aspiring racer, the girl is convincing as a vapid small-town loser/floosie, and the third guy is less memorable, but plays a good mellow mechanic who's ready to boil over. I really enjoyed seeing Vic Morrow again, who died in the early 80s. His role is a bit under-directed, but he plays the crusty, angry, not-in-my-town rabble dirty enough to pursue DIrty Larry.
THe characters fill in the gaps between the action, and convey a sort of 60s-70s looseness and boredom with normal life lost long ago to computers and video games. The car chases are grade A. I didn't see much that was blatantly unrealistic and the stunt work really reminded me of Tarantino's Death Proof, which I'm sure used this movie and possibly old stunt experts for inspiration. It may not equal the action of modern effects epics, but you dont have to watch some juvenile romance either. It hangs together well, it doesn't try to be more than it is, and it delivers some top quality stunts with no CGI anywhere. I ordered it for my friend, and liked it enough to get it myself, and I dont buy many movies.
If you like car chase movies, its one of the five best, and one of the few that has been properly transferred and packaged. At this price, its a great buy. Death Proof is as good for action, but this one's feel is highly realistic. They're about equal, and I can't think of many other car chase movies, besides scenes in French Connection etc, that equal these two. They should sell them together.
Dont let the awful opening song put you off. - Great Movie
